The San Diego Center for Children provides transformative mental health care and educational services to empower children and families. We serve over 1,000 people every day. Join us to work with purpose and make an impact in the community.

We are hiring Parent Partners to provide emotional support and parenting skills coaching to caregivers in the community as part of a wraparound team to support youth success. We have 3 locations : Escondido, Kearny Mesa, and La Mesa, CA.

Summary

The Parent Partner I will provide therapeutic services and support to family members and / or caregivers in wraparound teams and individual meetings. The Parent Partner I will form collaborative partnerships with all wraparound team members and community partners. Average caseload : 10–12 families. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Essential Roles And Responsibilities

  • In support of the client’s treatment plan, provide education, advocacy, crisis intervention, case management, rehabilitation, and other therapeutic services in a community-based fashion as they navigate the systems of care
  • Utilize supervision, consultation, and training to provide high-quality services to families, including evidence-based parenting curriculum
  • Locate, coordinate, and develop linguistically and culturally diverse informal and formal resources and networks for families in their communities
  • Share personal story to enhance engagement with families and increase awareness of clinical staff about parenting challenges while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
  • Provide culturally competent education and hands-on coaching to parents to help them understand how the ``systems’’ work and access community resources
  • Triage crisis situations with the team, including basic risk assessments, safety planning, and connecting to resources to maintain safety in the home, school, and community
  • Assist parents in completing Wellness Notebooks and connect to needed behavioral health services
  • Coordinate treatment with referring parties and outside resources including schools, psychiatrists, support groups, child care, government assistance, family advocacy programs, and others as appropriate
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete case records per Medi-Cal requirements and SDCC policies
  • Maintain clear, effective communication between multi-disciplinary clinical staff and administrative personnel within and between SDCC programs
  • Encourage involvement of parents in our Program Advisory Group (PAG) and WrapWorks events
  • Availability to work several evenings a week
  • Fulfill all required training including SDCC Partners Training, applicable EBP trainings, cultural competency, and HIPAA

  • Minimum Requirements

  • Valid California Driver’s License
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Experience as a consumer or caregiver of a consumer of Children’s Behavioral Health Services, Child Welfare Services, the juvenile justice system, Regional Center, or Special Education
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Preferred Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
  • Prior experience working in a wraparound program or as a parent educator / advocate
  • Proficient in Cerner (online medical records system)
