Overview

The IDB Invest Legal Department (GCL) is seeking highly qualified and motivated professionals to work in our Institutional and Corporate Legal Affairs Division (GCL / ICL), focusing on the substantive areas referenced below. Our department advises all governance bodies of IDB Invest and provides a full range of legal support to promote the development of Latin America and the Caribbean. The Institutional and Corporate Legal Affairs (ICL) Division provides legal advice on institutional, corporate and financial matters, including the rights and obligations of member countries; relationships with other international organizations; financial management; resource mobilization; administration of human resources; data privacy, intellectual property, information technology and general corporate matters; compliance, litigation, and other matters of strategic importance to IDB Invest.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on IDB Invest’s basic documents, including the Agreement Establishing the Inter-American Investment Corporation, and issues related to member country rights, capital subscriptions, governance, and policy initiatives.
• Provide legal advice on institutional matters (privileges and immunities, regulatory issues, governance structures, and committees).
• Provide legal advice on financial management, treasury operations, borrowing in international capital markets, derivatives, ISDA agreements, disclosures, financial reporting to investors and regulatory interactions.
• Provide legal advice on resource mobilization and cooperation arrangements.
• Provide legal advice on Human Resources administration, including policies, contract modalities, benefits, and HR governance for IDB Invest personnel in IDBG Country Offices.
• Provide legal advice on Information Technology and general corporate matters, including IT, data privacy, IP, and drafting / negotiating vendor agreements.
• Support in litigation and special assets, including private sector loan and guarantee transactions, restructurings, bankruptcies, workouts, and portfolio administration.
• Support institutional and corporate projects and initiatives; stay updated on legal trends and precedents; recommend standardized practices.
• Oversee the selection and supervision of outside counsel in a cost-effective manner.
• Lead Counsel responsibilities : handle increasing complexity, coordinate projects, promote knowledge sharing, and supervise / mentor team members.

What You’ll Need

Contract Type and Duration

International or National Staff Contract. Length of contract : 36 months initially, renewable by mutual agreement.
