Location : Los Angeles - Downtown LA / Koreatown area

Compensation : $115,000 - $140,000 / Year

Type of Employment : Direct Hire

Overview

Our publicly traded Financial Services client is currently seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to join their team. This person will manage the payroll process and procedures and partner with various departments in the organization. Qualified candidates will have multi-state payroll experience within a publicly traded organization and a willing attitude to join a great company!

Responsibilities

  • Manage biweekly payroll for the organization with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on payroll policies and procedures, providing guidance and support to internal stakeholders.
  • Manage complex payroll transactions, including deferred compensation, stock-based compensation, and executive-level pay.
  • Direct payroll tax filings and ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as public company reporting requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with SOX and implement strong internal controls within payroll operations.
  • Collaborate with Finance and HR teams on audits, quarterly reporting, and payroll-related 10-K disclosures.
  • Review and approve payroll journal entries and oversee general ledger reconciliations in coordination with Accounting.
  • Administer the HRIS platform (e.g., ADP), drive process enhancements, and lead system upgrades and integrations.
  • Other duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, HR, or related field required.
  • 5+ years of experience in payroll in a publicly traded company required.
  • Extensive experience with payroll systems (ADP, etc.) required.
  • Thorough knowledge of multi-state payroll, taxes, garnishments, wage, and hourly regulations required.
  • Banking or financial institution experience strongly preferred.
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of SOX and payroll-related internal controls.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and adapt to shifting requirements in fast-paced environments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with PeopleSoft General Ledger and Workiva software preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with good judgment and proven leadership experience.

  • The salary range for this role is $115K - $140K depending upon experience.
