Overview

BioPhase Solutions specializes in recruiting top talented professionals for Southern California's Life Sciences community. We are currently looking for an onsite contract-to-hire Accounts Payable Specialist for a leading San Diego area biotech company.

Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle accounts payable, including processing weekly check runs and electronic payments
  • Audit invoices for accuracy and proper coding; ensure internal approvals are obtained
  • Reconcile corporate credit card transactions and review employee expense reports (e.g., via Concur or similar systems)
  • Partner with internal teams and vendors to resolve invoicing and payment discrepancies
  • Maintain accurate vendor records, including tax documentation and 1099 support
  • Assist with general ledger support, including journal entries and reconciliations (e.g., cash, accruals, prepaids)
  • Contribute to month-end close activities and assist with internal and external audits
  • Support adherence to internal controls and SOX compliance procedures
  • Assist with other general accounting tasks as needed, including vendor setup and occasional AR support

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of AP or accounting experience in a public company; life science / biotech industry experience preferred
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field—or equivalent experience
  • Strong understanding of AP processes, internal controls, and SOX compliance
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs); experience with Great Plains, Concur, and ERP / AP automation tools is a plus
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Clear and professional communication skills; comfortable collaborating cross-functionally and with external vendors
  • Experience working in a growing or startup environment is a plus
