West Pico Distributors, LLC. is seeking a proactive, results-driven Chief Operating Officer with strong leadership skills, adept at optimizing processes, ensuring service quality, and driving operational efficiency. As COO, you will set the direction and maintain accountability across all functional departments, including operational support for Sales. Your direct reports will include the Controller, Administration, Warehouse Operations Leaders, Transportation, Procurement, and Customer Service managers. This position reports directly to the President of the company.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with distribution companies (preferably food), with a proven track record of process improvement, performance enhancement, and operational excellence while maintaining cost efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Demonstrate leadership, initiative, and integrity to develop direct reports.
- Promote staff training and development by setting short and long-term goals to foster advancement and a goal-oriented atmosphere.
- Control operating costs and inventory shrinkage.
- Continuously improve service levels by optimizing supply chain and aligning costs with customer expectations.
- Participate in preparing operating budgets and executing work plans.
- Ensure operational schedules support efficient and responsive purchasing and sales support.
- Identify strategic needs and implement plans accordingly.
- Manage business planning, including disaster recovery, work stoppages, and risk management.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work environment; develop safety incentive programs; control workers' compensation costs; foster a safety culture.
- Manage inventory control, including accuracy, expiration dates, and recalls.
- Understand work regulations and rules (FDA, OSHA, DOT, etc.).
- Possess intermediate IT knowledge.
- Maintain process discipline and consistency across all areas.
- Reassess organizational structure, skills, and capabilities to maximize leadership effectiveness.
- Maintain and develop KPIs and performance targets.
- Analyze and control warehouse / vendor spoilage rates as a percentage of sales.
- Participate in inventory risk management to reduce spoilage and control aged inventory.
- Plan operational support for major holidays and events.
- Assist in recruiting, training, and coaching direct reports.
- Manage performance appraisals and disciplinary actions.
- Develop succession plans for key personnel.
- Implement robust Food Safety Protocols, including HACCP.
Competencies, Skills & Qualifications :
Proven industry experience with professional growth.10+ years in executive leadership within warehouse distribution or related fields.Bachelor’s degree preferred in business administration, management, or related fields.Knowledge of OSHA, DOT standards, and inventory management software.Excellent leadership, integrity, and business insight.Strategic thinking, project management, and problem-solving skills.Strong interpersonal, communication, and team-building skills.Experience with change management, quality management, and cost control.Seniority level
