The University of Southern California (USC) Department of Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking a Manager of Network Engineering in Security & Cloud with an exceptional commitment to service excellence to join our team.

As the Manager of Network Engineering Security & Cloud , you will be an integral leader within the Infrastructure Services team, reporting to the Director of Network Engineering . This is a full-time position with USC benefits, including comprehensive medical coverage, generous PTO, retirement matching, and free tuition.

This role supports the architecture, design, implementation, and operations of the campus network and cloud infrastructure. Responsibilities include managing critical incidents, ensuring reliable network operations (including DDI, Firewall, VPN, load balancing), and supporting governance by implementing standards and procedures. You will also be a people manager, developing and performance managing a team that may include contractors and students. As part of the leadership team, you will model and cultivate USC ITS culture, values, and behaviors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience / education
  • 6 years of experience in information technology
  • 3 years in a management or leadership role
  • Hands-on experience with network transport, design, planning, and implementation
  • Deep understanding of routing protocols, LAN / WAN, Ethernet VPN, Dark Fiber, firewall tech, client / server architectures, QoS, load balancers, proxies, storage, and voice networks
  • Experience with firewalls, encryption, DNS, DHCP, routing, and switching fundamentals
  • Experience with data centers, network consolidations, or enterprise-wide technical integrations
  • Proven ability to develop positive relationships, manage high-performing teams, and communicate effectively
  • Demonstrated commitment to USC’s values

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Business Administration, Computer Science, or related fields
  • 10+ years in IT
  • 5+ years in management
  • Cisco or equivalent certifications
  • Experience supporting large-scale network implementations
  • Experience in higher education or large private organizations
  • Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Scope of the Role

  • Manage daily operations of the network engineering team, focusing on security, design, and enterprise architecture
  • Track and report metrics; define processes for network operations and improvements
  • Lead governance efforts, ensuring compliance with policies and standards
  • Provide strategic direction and build relationships with stakeholders
  • Support cost-effective solutions and industry innovation
  • Drive team development and foster a culture of trust, accountability, and excellent service

    Salary and Benefits

    The annual salary range is $173,000 to $190,000. USC considers various factors when extending offers, including experience, education, skills, and market conditions.

    Minimum education : Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Minimum experience : 6 years in IT, 3 years in management. Field expertise includes network transport, routing protocols, security, and enterprise consolidations.
