About the Opportunity
The Safety Manager is a strategic position and responsible for designing, deploying, and continuously improving the company’s Safety Management System (SMS) and employee health & safety (EHS) programs across all Peru operations (nursery, R&D, production, distribution, and administrative sites). Operating as a trusted advisor and change agent, the role ensures full compliance with Peru safety regulations, while driving a proactive safety culture that supports business objectives.
The position reports to the Director of Industrial Relations - Americas.

Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic planning, implementation, and oversight of the corporate Safety Management System in Peru, aligning with internal and international safety standards.
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive occupational health & safety programs, including hazard identification, risk assessment, incident investigation, and corrective‑action tracking.
- Serve as primary liaison with Peruvian regulatory agencies (e.g., SUNAFIL, etc.) for safety compliance, inspections, and reporting; ensure timely submission of legal obligations such as the Annual Work Program and accident statistics, where applicable.
- Partner with site leadership, HR, and Operations Leaders to set measurable safety performance goals; analyze leading and lagging indicators, contribute to the preparation of dashboards, and present findings to Peru leadership.
- Provide guidance and coaching to direct reports; set objectives, conduct performance reviews, and develop talent pipelines for future safety leadership.
- Lead serious incident investigations (e.g., fatalities, catastrophic events) using root‑cause methodologies and champion systemic corrective actions.
- Partner with Procurement team provide guidance on contractor and vendor safety qualification, onboarding, and audits.
- Champion employee engagement in safety through behavior‑based programs, safety committees, and targeted communications in Spanish and English.
- Manage the annual EHS budget for Peru, including capital projects, training, and PPE; identify ROI opportunities.
- Coordinate occupational health services, medical surveillance, and wellness initiatives in cooperation with appropriate internal and external resources.
Candidate Profile
Demonstrated mastery of occupational safety and health regulations.Proven leadership of multi‑site safety programs within a complex, matrixed organization.Strong analytical skills and proficiency with safety data systems, Power BI or similar analytics tools.Fluent in Spanish and English (written and verbal).Ability to travel.Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field required.Minimum 5-8 years of progressive EHS experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity over other safety professionals.Preferred Qualifications
Graduate degree (M.S., M.B.A., or equivalent) in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Business Administration.Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or STPS Diploma “Responsable de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo”.Experience supporting unionized facilities.Familiarity with continuous‑improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen).Experience integrating mental health, wellness, and ergonomic programs into safety strategy.
