Under the general guidance of the Registered Nurse, the Surgical Tech II applies advanced knowledge, competencies, and skills in surgical and aseptic techniques; assists the surgical team; prepares, sterilizes, and maintains surgical equipment; and ensures patient safety. The Surgical Tech II typically manages complex surgical procedures and exercises critical thinking and independent judgment.

Essential Duties

• Performs responsibilities similar to Surgical Tech I, with advanced skills and handling complex procedures such as Head, Neck, Neuro, Spine, and Orthopedic surgeries.
• Adheres to all safety standards and policies, including surgical, specimen collection, sterile processing, Title 22, and JCAHO standards.
• Applies aseptic principles and corrects breaches promptly.
• Maintains attentiveness during procedures, anticipates surgical team needs, and responds during intraoperative crises.
• Communicates effectively with the surgical team regarding patient status and surgery progress.
• Prepares and manages sterile set-up, instruments, and supplies for surgeries.
• Performs scrub role, passing instruments, and assisting during procedures.
• Prepares, cleans, and maintains surgical instruments and equipment.
• Transports patients, supplies, and specimens.
• Sets up the operating room according to the case requirements.
• Participates in training students and mentoring other surgical technicians.
• Engages in decision-making and process improvement activities related to surgical supplies and equipment.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
