About Design at Gusto

Product Design at Gusto comprises over 70 creative, collaborative individuals dedicated to empowering small businesses and their employees. Our team is cross-functional, working closely with Product, Engineering, Data, and Marketing to design impactful, inclusive experiences. We value thoughtful design that makes complex things possible and even delightful.

About The Role

As a staff product designer, you will help mature our contractor products, driving foundational shifts in our platform and customer experiences. You will influence major experience changes in critical workflows, from setting long-term visions to launching and iterating features.

About The Team

Contractors are vital to the economy, offering flexibility and independence. Our Contractors team supports SMBs in hiring, managing, and paying contractors, both domestic and international, and helps contractors manage client engagements and grow their businesses.

Here’s What You’ll Do Day-to-day

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to define a long-term UX vision aligned with Gusto’s broader goals.
  • Work with teams in UX Research, Data Science, Legal, Compliance, Ops, and Support to understand customer needs and identify opportunities.
  • Design and ship new and iterative projects that provide ongoing value.
  • Share your skills and experience within Gusto’s product design community.
  • Champion and help evolve our design system and platform standards.

Here’s What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of product design experience.
  • Impact across multiple product areas, demonstrating leadership in design direction.
  • Experience designing guided, approachable experiences in complex domains.
  • Ability to influence product strategy and work with executive stakeholders.
  • High standards for design quality and accessibility, with a focus on delivering early customer value.
  • We offer competitive compensation, emphasizing equity ownership. The salary range in Denver and most remote locations is $139,000 to $199,000 / year; in Seattle, San Francisco, and New York, it is $179,000 to $221,000 / year. Final offers depend on experience and expertise.

    Gusto has offices in Denver, San Francisco, and New York. Employees in these locations are expected to work from the office 2-3 days per week. Remote work requires a reliable internet connection.
