Purpose :
The purpose of the Assistant Director of Operations (ADO) position is to assist the Executive Director of Operations (EDO) in leading and maximizing branch-wide profitability and operations excellence. The ADO ensures that branch management staff are prepared to serve our guests with clean restaurants, prepared staff, and thorough job knowledge and skills to high-performance standards.
Essential Functions :
Assists the Executive Director of Operations in directing the daily operations of the locationAssists in facilitating the development and implementation of the annual budget, and works with branch-level management to ensure budgeted sales and profit goals are achievedEffectively plans, organizes, prioritizes and assigns business activitiesEnsures all company / brand standards and safety guidelines are metResolves most questions and problems and refers only the most complex issues to the EDOEnsures managers know and follow opening, daily and closing procedures / checklists in accordance with company policies / proceduresInterviews job candidates, makes hiring, termination, advancement, promotion or any other status change decisions for associates within the branch. Promotes HMSHost as an employer of choice within the local communityActively ensures managers adhere to mandated rest breaks and meal periodsEnsures compliance with wellness and safety procedures and guidelines, builds awareness about wellness and safety, and reports any safety concerns to the EDO / Zone LeaderEnsures all managers understand and perform all Health and Safety activities as specified in the Manager's Guide to Associate Health and SafetyReads and understands financial and operational data and reports to monitor progress towards the branch, zone, and restaurant goals and assigns associates to meet those objectives.Ensures the company and branch diversity and inclusion philosophy is understood and actively executed within the restaurantUses good judgment and broad discretion to resolve customer and associate questions and problemsEnsures compliance with all company adult beverage policies, and ensures all restaurant staff understand and follow AB proceduresEnsures display areas are appropriately clean, stocked, and visually appealingEnsures all equipment is in good working orderEnsures that the company has the most current contact information for all associates working in the restaurant.Requirements :
Ability to work shifts during various operating days and hours each week; during opening, during busy day parts, and during closing to monitor restaurant associates' and managers' work activities during these different days and timesKnowledge of all applicable federal, state, and local sanitary, safety, and health standards, and all procedures and protocols to comply with HACCP standardsReporting relationship and other important information :
The ADO position as described falls under the Fair Labor Standards Act as an Exempt positionThe ADO position typically reports to the Executive Director of OperationsMinimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment :
ADOs must have documented and demonstrated skills managing the types of restaurants (QSR, Casual Dine, Full Service, similar complexity, Union and Non-Union, etc) to which the role is assigned, to include overall responsibility for success and failure of the restaurant under their leadership as identified by P&L success for multiple annual cycles for the type or restaurant assigned. Generally speaking, restaurant P&L management experience for a minimum of 5 years with underlying overall working restaurant experience of 8 years in type is typically necessary to be successful.Graduation from a Food Service Management or Culinary program may substitute for a portion of the time based experience requirement for each of these rolesDemonstrates team management, delegation and issue resolution skills and the ability to manage multiple, conflicting, and concurrent prioritiesDemonstrates knowledge of HMSHost policies and products, service, quality, equipment and operations standards, or able to demonstrate this knowledge within a reasonable time from hire or promotionRequires the ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and policy documents, understand menus and brand standards as well as converse comfortably with individualsAll job requirements are subject to change to reflect the evolving position requirements or to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities.
