Overview
Merchant Risk Investigator I role at Paysafe. You’ll be a vital part of our Risk team, safeguarding the business against fraud and other threats. You’re naturally curious, analytical, and passionate about risk prevention. When something doesn’t seem right, you dig deep to uncover the root cause. In this role, you’ll monitor merchant activity for signs of fraud or unusual behavior, analyze data to identify patterns, and take decisive action to mitigate risk. You’ll also ensure compliance with NACHA regulations and contribute to the development of risk mitigation strategies across electronic payments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead fraud investigations, regulatory inquiries, and compliance assessments.
- Monitor ACH transactions for fraud, unusual patterns, or regulatory violations.
- Use fraud detection dashboards to analyze trends and generate alerts.
- Partner with Underwriting, Compliance, and IT to investigate suspicious activity.
- Ensure adherence to NACHA guidelines and regulations.
- Collaborate with internal teams and merchants to implement risk rules aligned with business risk appetite.
- Initiate funding holds / releases within authorized limits and investigate potential financial losses.
- Assist in refining risk rules, thresholds, and reporting metrics.
- Evaluate risk alerts and loss trends to optimize Risk Monitoring System parameters.
- Monitor daily merchant batch settlements to detect irregular transaction patterns and mitigate potential losses.
- Investigate high-risk or suspicious transactions by engaging with merchants, issuing banks, and cardholders.
- Analyze merchant transaction volumes, chargebacks, and account behavior.
- Communicate with merchants and sales offices regarding exceptions or suspicious activity; request supporting documentation.
- Support special projects and additional duties as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experienceMinimum 3 years of experience in risk investigations within online payments, e-commerce, or bankingStrong knowledge of card brand rules and regulationsProven ability to analyze, evaluate, and mitigate fraud risksExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving abilitiesHigh attention to detail and logical thinkingEffective time management and organizational skillsSelf-motivated, resourceful, and quick to learn internal systemsWhy work at Paysafe?
