Our Tax Practice is comprised of over 100 professionals, the majority of whom have post-graduate degrees in tax, law or business and have previously worked with “Big Four” accounting firms. Our dedicated tax team addresses complex tax issues for privately held businesses, including federal, state and local tax strategies, tax credit maximization, estate planning and international matters. We provide sophisticated advice tailored for each client and help clients maximize tax benefits and savings. We deliver access to tax and industry resources through events, blogs and publications. The team aims to understand the client’s strategic vision and work toward common goals while maintaining independence. This position offers growth potential within a specialized niche of our tax practice and provides opportunities to impact the practice’s growth. This role supports our expanding pass-through entity and private equity tax practice with tax compliance and tax consulting opportunities.
You will be responsible for :
- The Tax Manager is responsible for the efficient, accurate, complete, and timely preparation of all clients’ tax returns, whether prepared personally or under supervision. Advanced technical skills in various tax and accounting areas, along with strong management and supervision abilities, are required. The Tax Manager may provide input on tax issues presented.
- Performs technical tax review and approval of all tax returns and governmental tax examinations of any complexity.
- Assumes full responsibility for larger tax returns and delegates to the tax preparers as deemed necessary.
- Delegates, manages, and performs tax research projects to achieve accurate and efficient results.
- Participates in client meetings and tax planning efforts to assist the Auditing and Accounting Department with larger clients.
- Acts as a resource for tax preparers / specialists and A&A staff on specific tax issues and / or questions.
- Coordinates with M&A, SALT, and ITS tax specialties on projects to deliver accurate and efficient results.
- Assists and supervises tax preparers with more complex business returns.
- Assumes client service responsibility for clients the tax manager works directly with or clients where responsibility is delegated from the partner.
- Communicates important tax developments affecting the firm’s clients to appropriate firm personnel.
- Maintains familiarity with qualifications of all tax staff members; reviews staff assignments for appropriateness.
- Develops and trains staff, assisting in recruiting, performance evaluations, and professional development.
- Ensures smooth flow of tax returns through the tax preparation system to assure accurate, complete and timely delivery of all clients’ tax returns.
- Maintains knowledge of the firm’s philosophy and opinions on tax matters, and awareness of economic and political trends affecting tax legislation.
- Participates in practice development through involvement with referral sources, community and industry activities.
- Responsible for engagement profitability—billing and collections.
- Participates in firm committees and management meetings as appropriate.
- Proficient in the use of computer tax preparation, tax research, and tax planning software.
- Willingness to join the firm’s Mentoring Program and perform other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field, together with CPA certification.5+ years of experience in tax at a public accounting firm or equivalent.Master of Science in Taxation or a J.D. is highly preferred for this Tax Management position.Minimum of 40 hours of continuing education required each year to maintain and develop technical and business skills, and to maintain license requirements.GHJ is committed to equal opportunity employment. We disclose salary ranges per local / state regulations. The current estimated range for this role is $130,000 - $175,000, with final offers determined by internal equity, market data, and the candidate’s skills and experience.
