Description

The maintenance engineer is responsible for providing on-site technical activities for trackside and onboard Signalling ATC (ATS, IXL, CBTC). These systems are predominantly electronic and software-based, many built using Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) computer hardware. This is a 1st and 2nd line support role.

When called out, the maintenance engineer will diagnose faults; if the issue cannot be resolved, they will liaise with the appropriate 3rd Line System Expert (HITACHI Support).

Working hours are nominally 40 hours per week, with flexible working essential to accommodate client maintenance periods. The engineer will be on-call for some nights and weekends. The engineer should reside near the metro depot and sites to reach fault locations quickly when service calls are received.

The engineer is not expected to be an expert in every Metro Subway system or railway signaling but should have a high level of computer / control system skills. Experience on electronic systems for utilities, Oil & Gas, Railway, etc., is preferred, but a practical IT Support engineer familiar with software installation may also be considered.

Accountabilities

• This is technical electronic / electro-mechanical Train Control (TC) maintenance and repair work of a difficult and complex nature. The employee is responsible for performing highly skilled maintenance / repair / testing / troubleshooting on ATC (IXL, ATS, CBTC) equipment, with the ability to exercise independent judgment within established guidelines.
• Performs major repairs, inspection, adjustments, testing, cleaning, lubrication and proper maintenance on assigned ATC equipment in accordance with wiring diagrams, schematics, operations manuals and manufacturers’ maintenance instructions.
• Observes ATC system components and devices in operation to detect potential failures and locates causes of malfunction. Responds to ATC malfunctions, instituting repairs / replacements as necessary. Uses electronic test equipment and other specialized tools as required.
• Completes documentation for installation, maintenance and modification of ATC equipment.
• Provides technical assistance to lower classified personnel in their work assignments. Participates in training programs as required.
• Complies with Safety Rules, Operating Book of Rules and first-aid procedures.

Education / Qualifications

University Degree : Engineering or similar technical degree.
